BAD ART NIGHT

An invitation to satisfy your inherent desire to create. No rules. Just show up & create—because you are an artist, and that is what artist’s do.

what is “bad art”? bad art is creative expression born of free-range art-making, it is the intentional, mindful quieting of both internal and external judgement. by making bad art, you are communicating to your inner critic that they don’t always get to have an opinion.

bad art is about the process, not the outcome. tell your inner perfectionist to take the day off. gather supplies, spread them out in front of you, and start. don’t think about the artwork’s final purpose in this world -- art that you make only to shove into the back of your closet (until you ultimately decide to trash it) is born of time you spent practicing your skill, being intentional, playing, exercising your curiosity, and learning something new about what you like (and don’t like) to do.

if you’re an artist, all you have to do is make art. that’s it. I challenge you to see the art that ends up in the landfill one day as just as important as the art that gets sold at a gallery show. you stopped time, you harbored creative energy, you made something. you can’t convince me that spending those two hours doom scrolling is time better spent than making trash art.

satisfy your inherent desire to create, sans judgement, and make bad art with me!
